Abstract
•Twenty-eight marine-derived Firmicutes display antifungal activity against FOL.•Most of the Paenibacillus strains are rhizospheric competent on tomato root system.•Paenibacillus sp. PNM200 promotes tomato growth under greenhouse conditions.•Tomato root exudates act as chemoattractants on marine-derived Paenibacillus strains.•Paenibacillus sp. PNM200 reduce the incidence and severity of tomato vascular wilt.•PNM200 secreted metabolites during fermentation are not responsible for in vivo activity.
