Abstract
The wireless sensor network development has progressed rapidly in the past few years. The key components of the systems mentioned above are sensors. In this paper, a power-efficient sensor system named SenCu is proposed. The SenCu (Sensing Cube) is a low-power sensor system that is designed to cooperate with Scratch for the programming education. The Scratch programmers can facilitate the SenCu sensor system to develop their creative applications. The sensing data from multiple SenCu sensor systems is sent to the PC by wireless communication concurrently, while the Scratch program performs the sensor fusion operations and applications on PC. Currently, the SenCu consists of four kinds of sensing systems, including the motion sensor system (SenCu-Motion), color sensor system (SenCu-Color), Ir distance sensor system (SenCu-IrD), and PM2.5 sensor system (SenCu-PM2.5). A low power firmware and hardware mechanism is adopted in the SenCu sensor system to enable the automatic shutdown process when the SenCu does not receive any response command for a certain period of time. The 49% of power consumption can thus be saved with this low power mechanism.
