Stress Field Computation and Analysis for UHV GIS Basin Insulator

In this paper, based on the mechanical properties of alumina epoxy composite material, the distribution of stress and strain of ultra high voltage (UHV) GIS basin insulator is studied by stress field simulation, and the influence of pressure change of GIS equipment air chamber on the distribution of stress of basin insulator is analyzed. It is found that stress concentration occurs in different degrees near the convex flange, the concave center conductor, the flange and the convex side of the interface between the basin and the center conductor. When under operating conditions, the maximum stress values of the concave and convex sides of the basin and the interface between the basin and the center conductor are 3.77 MPa, 2.09 MPa and 2.64 MPa, respectively. With the increasing of gas chamber pressure of UHV GIS equipment, the stress value of each stress concentration area of basin insulator is also increasing gradually. When the pressure of the air chamber on the convex side of the basin insulator is 0.3 MPa and that on the concave side increases to 0.7 MPa, 0.8 MPa, 0.9 MPa and 1 MPa respectively, the maximum stress values of the basin insulator are 6.42 MPa, 7.98 MPa, 9.53 MPa and 11.09 MPa, respectively, which are 31.8%, 63.9%, 95.7% and 127.7% higher than that on the concave side when the pressure is 0.6 MPa.
