Abstract
For humans it is dangerous to explore areas that are possibly contaminated with radioactive sources. We are using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a gamma radiation detector to perform an airborne localization of radiating sources. In this work we used flight patterns with different parameters (varying altitude, velocity and lateral offsets) to test the localization accuracy. We tested our system with these flight patterns and evaluated the data with a least squares method resulting in a maximum error of 3.3 meters.
