沁河是黄河下游的一级支流,是黄河三门峡至花园口区间主要的洪水来源.沁河泥沙含量较少,其下游却是地上悬河.近年来沁河下游河槽严重萎缩,排洪能力降低,防洪形势颇为严峻,主要原因是:黄河的淤积引起了沁河下游的溯源淤积,使丹河口至西张计为微冲微淤,西张计至小董为微淤,小董以下为淤积.
