PHOTOPRODUCTION OF PI-MESONS ON COMPLEX NUCLEI AT SMALL ANGLES IN THE REGION OF THE DELTA-(1232) RESONANCE

The results of a study of photoproduction of pi-0 mesons at small angles in the region of the DELTA-33 resonance on the nuclei Li-6, C-12, Al-27, Cu, and Cd (where Cu and Cd are mixtures of isotopes) are presented. The differential cross sections for gamma-ray lab energies approximately 300-450 MeV and a mean c.m. emission angle congruent-to 8.4-degrees are given. The data for Li-6, C-12, and Al-27 are compared with the available calculations performed in the plane-wave and distorted-wave impulse approximation. An estimate of the resonance parameters of the DELTA-33 isobar is made, and the A-alpha-dependence of the cross section is studied. The main characteristics of the apparatus are given.
