Abstract
Seeking ways to apply concepts of engineering in a social context, mainly in the solidarity economy, a partnership with the Recyclable Materials Collectors' Association of Sao Joao del-Rei was established. This partnership resulted in the design of a glass grinder, allowing the processing of the material. Concepts of product development were used. The process started with the Informational Project, consisting on talks with the collectors and potential glass waste buyers, and this data was systematically organized. It was followed by the Conceptual Project, creating the functional design, an analysis of the machine's functionality and the characteristics necessary to reach this goal. Finally, the Detailed Project involved calculations related to design and mechanical drawing, as well as cost and functionality evaluations. In the end, an equipment capable of supplying the needs of the Association with a low cost was obtained. The following work also consists on a study of the application of the concepts concerning product development in products in solidarity economy's environment.
