Abstract
A discrete-event simulation model for prediction of the operational flow of the neonatal screening process was developed. The model was validated using data collected in the Center of Actions and Research for Support the Diagnosis of Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of the State of Minas Gerais. The model was tested in the Laboratory of Neonatal Screening of the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of the State of Minas Gerais, responsible for processing the samples collected by the Neonatal Screening Program in the State, which seeks to conduct examinations in all live births. The proposed model allows that the Laboratory Manager has a general overview of the program operational flow. Therefore, the model provides to the Laboratory Manager the possibility to perform predictions and perform experiments without having to interfere with the productivity of human resources in the real system.
