Living with mesothelioma: A qualitative study of the experiences of male military veterans in the UK

•This is the first study to investigate the experience of UK veterans with mesothelioma.•Veterans exposure to asbestos varied and was not always linked to high risk occupations.•Veterans' coping strategies may be influenced by their military experiences.•Navigating complex military, health and civil systems was challenging for veterans.•Professionals with experience of working with veterans can support navigation of these systems.
