Abstract
•The particle size of the pelleted feed is evaluated in the nursery phase.•The older the animal at nursery the better its performance when fed coarser feed.•In the pre-initial phase, pelleting diets with a geometric mean diameter (GMD) of 534 µm improves performance.•In the initial phase, pelleting diets with a GMD of 943 µm improves performance.•In the initial phase, piglets receiving pellet diets with the finest GMD (587 µm) showed better feed efficiency utilization.
