Comparison of different methods for assessing effects of soil interparticle forces on aggregate stability

•Three methods were used to evaluate soil aggregate stability.•There were significant correlations among pipette method, wetting sieving and rainfall simulation experiment.•Soil interparticle forces were the main factors inducing aggregate breakdown.•There was no one method that can be used for any soil types.
