Identification of ACC synthetase genes in Volvariella volvacea and analysis of their response to ethephon and 1-methylcyclopropene treatments

•Four acs genes in V. volvacea are identified and analyzed.•The ACS proteins show high homology between V. volvacea and plants.•The acs expression level change in response to changes in endogenous ethylene.•The acs genes are the key regulator of ethylene synthesis in V. volvacea.
