Characterization of fruit quality traits for organic acids content and profile in a large peach germplasm collection

•Fruit acidity greatly varied in peach germplasm with a range of 1.18–12.31 g L−1.•Among the ten organic acids detected, malate and citrate were the most abundant.•The large phenotypic diversity could be useful for the breeding of novel varieties.
