Three-Dimensional Computational Modeling of an Extra-Descending Aortic Assist Device Using Fluid-Structure Interaction

•Three-dimensional modeling of a prototype cardiac assist device using FSI is conducted.•Impacts of device implantation on hemodynamic patterns in aorta and aortic valve are investigated.•The device augments the outflows by the amount of 15 ml per cycle.•No remarkable force is exerted on the aortic valve by the device at the descending aorta.•The maximum von Mises stress created at the walls is about 3.3 MPa.
