Abstract
Rationale: The preoperative nutritional status and immune status have been reported to be associated not only with postoperative complications, but also with prognoses of patients with gastroenterological malignancies. We have been reported the impact of the preoperative Onodera’s prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and controlling nutritional status (CONUT) on both short-term and long-term outcomes in gastric cancer and colorectal cancer patients. However, these indexes need to be calculated and are not always easy to use in daily clinical situations. In order to find a simpler index, we have reported that the preoperative cholinesterase (ChE) level is associated with the long-term outcome in gastric cancer surgery. The aim of this study was to investigate the value of the preoperative ChE levels on the short-term and long-term outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery.
