This paper investigates the behavior of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)-steel composite plate and develops the fundamental theory for the analysis of FRP-steel structure. Uniaxial static tensile tests were conducted to investigate the mechanical properties of FRP-steel plate. Theoretical models to predict the stress-strain relationship of FRP-steel plate, derived from the rule of mixture of composite materials, were proposed and verified. The finite element model was established to study the detailed behaviors of the composite plate. Both theoretical model and the FE model showed good agreement with the test results, and could be applied to predict the mechanical properties of FRP-steel structures. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd.
