Effect of oxygen on formic acid decomposition over Pd catalyst

•The results show that deactivation can be suppressed by adding traces of oxygen.•The deactivation is caused by the CO poisoning Pd catalyst.•The catalyst activity is maintained compared to inert system.•CO oxidized by O2 preferentially over H2 when O2 concentration is below 0.1 vol%.
