Background: Lead toxicity can lead to anemia, encephalopathy, decreased neuropsychological test scores, increased delinquent behavior, and decreased IQ. The CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) agree that prevention is the best approach to improve morbidity from lead exposure. Studies on immigrant children show that Haitian children are among the highest for the rate of lead toxicity.
