摘要
Introduction: There is a sound knowledge on a significantly lower level of physical activity (PA) in patients with COPD compared to healthy controls. This fact is associated with a greater presence of symptoms, hospitalization due to an exacerbation, decreased exercise tolerance and other factors (e.g. comorbidities, quadriceps muscle strength and mass). Association between COPD stage and PA was well studied, but there is a lack of information about PA level in association with ABCD assessment tools, even though this tool is derived from patient symptoms and their history of exacerbation. Therefore, our study sought to determine if there is any difference in PA among ABCD groups. Methods: The number of steps was monitored in 325 patients with COPD in a stable phase of their disease (67.1±8.5 years old, FEV1=50.1±15.5% predicted, 103 females/222 males) for 1 week (Digiwalker CW 700 pedometer, Yamax) in 9 centres. Results: The highest number of patients belonged to group B (197) and D (93), less to group A (26) and only 9 patients to group C. PA was significantly different among groups. The highest PA was confirmed in group A. On the contrary, the lowest PA was found in group D (Table 1). Moreover, 76.3% of patients in group D were sedentary (less than 5000 steps per day), 66.0% in group B, 55.6% in group C, but only 30.8% in group A. Conclusions: From the given results it can be concluded that PA is different among groups A-D. Therefore, recommendations for PA level have to be individualized and it is necessary to promote a sufficient PA level as soon as possible.
