Abstract
Asthma is a chronic airway disease characterized by persistent inflammation and considered one of the most common illness worldwide. Although, it seems that benefits of exercise in asthma are well-know, high intensity interval training (HIIT) benefits on it remain uncertainty. Objective: To study if HIIT in a chronic lung allergic model could attenuated inflammatory process. Method: 38Balb/C mice were divided into 4 groups: SAL (non-sensitized group); OVA (ovalbumin sensitized group); HIIT (animals submitted to HIIT), OVA+HIIT (OVA sensitized and submitted to HIIT group). HIIT was performed in a treadmill altering 26 sessions: 1min of 75%¨maximum capacity training and 30s of 50% maximum capacity training, over 4w, 5x/w in HIIT groups. OVA and OVA+HIIT groups received intraperitoneal injections of ovalbumin (OVA) solution (days 1, 14, 28, 42) and were challenged with OVA aerosol 3 times/week from days 21 to 53. Airway responsiveness to increasing doses of methacholine and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) were performed 24h after last aerosol challenge. Results: OVA challenge induces an increase in resistance (AUC:449.84±242.17; p<0.05) and elastance (AUC:13.95±1.76;p<0.05) of respiratory system as well as increase number of total cells (7.44±4.55 x104cells/mL;p<0.001), eosinophils (1.18±0.66x104cells/mL;p<0.001), lymphocytes (1.16±0.39x104cells/mL;p<0.001) in BAL. HIIT in OVA group resulted in decreasing of all these parameters (p>0.05) except for resistance and elastance of respiratory system. Conclusion: Our results suggested that HIIT could attenuated inflammatory process in a chronic lung allergic model although it cannot prevent changes in lung function.Supported by FAPESP(19966-6),LIMHC-FMUSP,Cnpq.
