摘要
In this study, the effect of a vanadium addition on the fracture and wear resistance of indefinite chilled cast iron (ICCI) was investigated. The possibility of cracks in the roll is greatly influenced by the microstructural properties. Indefinite chilled cast iron used as a material consists of a martensite, Fe3C, and graphite. A large amount of Fe3C is deposited to improve wear resistance. However, cracks propagate easily due to the Fe3C. To overcome this disadvantage, the effect of vanadium was investigated by adding vanadium content of 1.3 %, 2.6 %, and 4.3 %. For analysis of the effects of vanadium, the volume fraction and distribution of carbide and graphite formed during solidification are measured. As a result of microstructure analysis, the addition of vanadium element crystallizes vanadium carbide in high-hardness precipitates, providing excellent wear resistance. In addition, due to the finely distributed but discontinuous Fe3C, it is difficult for the crack to propagate, thus increasing the flexural strength.
