Survey of Hardware Trojan Threats and Detection

Functions that are not intended by the chip designer are added in the IC manufacturing supply chain, which may cause the destruction of the IC or degrade security under certain circumstances. Those function added to ICs against the designer’s intention is called hardware Trojans (HTs); it is a new threat that degrades device security. To make the company and its designers aware of these threats and consider countermeasures, this paper introduces recent research trends on such threats and their detection methods. It also shows the specific threats of HT related to the electromagnetic information security field, which has been discussed in the EMC society in recent years and promotes EMC engineers’ and researchers’ understanding of HT.
