Covalent organic frameworks (COF-300-AR) with unique catalytic performance in luminol chemiluminescence for sensitive detection of serotonin

•The reduced covalent organic frameworks as a catalyst is used in the chemiluminescence system for the first time.•The serotonin is rapidly analyzed with limit of detection of 2.3 nM.•The novel method was utilized to the detection of serotonin in biological sample with satisfactory recoveries.
