摘要
The increasing number of syphilis diagnosis is challenging the world public health programs, especially among young individuals. Some authors have suggested that this phenomenon is because of the practice of unprotected sex as a consequence of the advancements in the treatment and quality of life of patients with chronic sexually transmitted diseases. Oral manifestations may be present in all stages of the disease and may represent its first clinical sign. We report 3 cases of secondary syphilis mucosal plaque in female patients who were 15, 16, and 21 years old without a previous diagnosis. In all cases, the histopathologic analysis was suggestive for syphilis, which was confirmed by Venereal Disease Research Laboratory and fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption tests. Clinicians and health teams should improve public awareness programs regarding prevention, importance of early diagnosis, and appropriate treatment considering complications of the late stages of the disease.
