The contextual taphonomy of middens at Neolithic Kfar HaHoresh

•Intra-site contextual taphonomy was used to compare midden deposits at Neolithic Kfar HaHoresh.•Results reveal the depositional histories of middens and highlight ritual practice at a Neolithic funerary center.•Methods utilize a sacred ritual baseline of faunal characteristics to detect sacred–mundane ritual practice.
