Abstract

•A new orientation relationship OR13 is identified in Mg/Mg2Sn system.•The OR13 type Mg2Sn precipitate is enclosed by irrational facets.•The irrational facets can be well explained through geometric simulation.•Only about 1.6° deviation of OR can lead to a big change in precipitate shape.
