Structural and magnetic study of a new dinuclear SMM

A new single molecular magnet Dy2(OAc)4(pan)2(H2O)2 (1, pan=1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol) has been prepared and characterized by the assembly of pan and dysprosium acetate, in respect to the versatile coordination ability of pan to the various central metal ions. The complex 1 exhibits magnetic property in respect to the central Dy ions, and magnetic measurement indicates significant single molecular magnet behavior with an effective energy barrier of 30 K.
