Abstract
Purpose of Study: There is a critical lack of information regarding the prevention and treatment of inflammation-induced brain injury in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. Oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPC) are the major cellular target of brain damage in VLBW infants during the critical period of injury. Our previous in vitro studies showed that the bacterial endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced damage to OPCs was mediated by microglia.
