Parameters and genetic associations of visual scores and weights in Hereford and Braford breeds

•The selection of animals for the studied visual scores can be done at weaning alone.•Selecting young animals for limb conformation should avoid future problems.•Selecting for ocular pigmentation should reduce ocular carcinoma.•The navel size in the selection indices should minimize the appearance of lesions.
