Abstract
Abstract Basalts, which cover about 70% of the Earth\u0027s surface, are igneous rocks originating from cooling and solidifying the magma on the Earth\u0027s surface. Products obtained from the melting of rocks have a wide market and can be considered the precursors of glass-ceramic technology. These materials are promising due to the possibility of converting low-cost natural raw materials into products with excellent mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. In this article, a general overview of the basic principles for obtaining basaltic glass-ceramic materials will be made, as well as their properties, applications, and potentialities.
