•Oribatid mite assemblages did not respond to 3 years of elevated CO2 in a Eucalyptus woodland.•Mite communities were more aligned with soil C, N and soil pH.•Oribatid mite morphotype and OTU richness were both positively correlated to soil N Content.•Demonstrates the utility of metabarcoding for monitoring shifts in soil faunal assemblages.
