A080 Length of Hospital Stay and Discharge Disposition in Transcatheter versus Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an attractive alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Increases in the number of patients having TAVI compared to SAVR will have significant implications on resource utilisation. Data regarding length of stay and discharge disposition were obtained for all patients undergoing aortic valve intervention in Christchurch 2018. SAVR patients were excluded if the indication was endocarditis, bicuspid aortic valve, aortic regurgitation or coronary disease; or they received mechanical valve or concomitant treatment for another valve. In total, 139 patients had aortic valve intervention, of which 50 received TAVI and 36 had SAVR without any exclusion criteria. The majority of TAVI patients were discharged on the first day following the procedure.
