Investigation of X-ray crystal structure and in vitro cytotoxicity of two Ga(III) complexes containing pyridine dicarboxylic acid derivatives and 2-aminobenzimidazole

•Two novel Ga(III) complexes have been synthesized and characterized.•Structure of the compounds was determined by X-ray crystallography.•Thermal properties of the complexes were studied.•Cytotoxicity of the compounds was checked against four cancer cell lines and one normal cell line.•Effect of the complexes on mitochondrial membrane depolarization and production of reactive oxygen species was investigated.
