Asymptotic beam theory for non-classical elastic materials

•Inter-metallic alloys modelled by a nonlinear constitutive relation are considered.•An asymptotic beam theory is developed, without any ad hoc assumptions.•The approximate analytical solution is constructed by a novel iteration method.•Classical beam theory is unsuitable for a certain class of problems.•Euler-Bernoulli hypotheses are found to be not suitable for these materials.
