The direct measurement of the cylinder block dynamic characteristics based on a non-contact method in an axial piston pump

•A measurement scheme with a less modified pump is proposed.•Run-out signals of cylinder block are removed accurately from measured signals.•Cylinder block movement fluctuates periodically and strengthens with pressure.•Cylinder block whirls around the shaft, and orbit center shifts obviously.
