•Maya Limekilns were investigated in the western Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico).•A temperature range of 750–850 ºC was estimated for lime production process.•Kilns were last used between 900 and 1050 AD and 1460 and 1630 AD.•The chronology is linked to the constructive splendor of the Maya area.
