Amorphous V2O5 as high performance cathode for aqueous zinc ion battery

•Amorphous V2O5 (a-V2O5) cathode was prepared for aqueous zinc-ion battery.•The a-V2O5 electrode shows high capacity and excellent cycling performance.•The excellent electrochemical performance is attributed to its high structural disorder.•The simple solution method shows great potential in practical application.
