摘要
One of the first stages of biomass conversion is the separation of its main constituents and diffusers can be used for this purpose. Although diffuser efficiencies can reach up to 98%, different factors can lead to operational problems that reduce extraction efficiency. The aim of this study is to propose an innovative and optimized diffuser design capable of preventing/reducing operational problems. The new design is obtained through the multi-objective optimization of the connections among the diffuser’s extraction stages, performed using a random walk approach. Results showed that in the optimal design, three connections were more likely to happen in each stage: connection to the next stage, connection with the stage itself and connection with the previous stage. Regarding connection intensity, a higher probability of achieving maximum extraction efficiencies can be obtained if each stage is connected in greater proportions (85–100%) with the next stage and in smaller proportions (0–15%) with itself and previous stages.
