3D Modeling Design of the Inside Surface of Moulded Bra Cup

Abstract
Moulded cup bra receives extensive welcoming by the lingerie industry because of its aesthetics and functionality to collect and push-up the breast, and works by remolding the form of the breast. Using the method of forward engineering, based on the body measurement and data analysis of the target group, this paper extracted the curves which can represent the moulded bra cup functionality, so as to guide the modeling design of the inside surface of the moulded bra cup. 30 northwestern Chinese young women, who are 18-25 year of age and about 160 cm in height, were chosen as the subjects for this study. Firstly, 3D body scanner system was used to measure the height, width, depth, girth, and the detailed sizes of the female breast, such as bust point width, up/down breast curves, face/flank breast curves, wire line curves, etc. Secondly, based on the detailed breast sizes, the plane control curves and the space control curves were generated in the cup modeling, where the feature curves were extracted, and the effect of the feature curves on the breast plumpness degree was analyzed. Lastly, constraint relations of the feature curves were established to guide the 3D modeling design of the inside surface. In light of this study, the moulded bra cup designed through forward engineering was more comfortable and fit well on the body, and attained the expected functionality. The feature curves based on the body measurement were the key to the inside surface modeling design of 3D moulded bra cup.
