Abstract
A case of colonic plasmacytoma with suspected pulmonary and gastric metastases is reported. The first manifestations were neuro-ophthalmic disorders due to hyperviscosity. The gastric and pulmonary lesions were found ten years after surgery and chemotherapy for the colonic tumor. Following additional chemotherapy the patient is doing well. The value of immunohistochemistry using immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase techniques for the diagnosis of monoclonal plasma cell growth is underlined. The risk of metastases to a variety of organs is discussed, with emphasis on the tendency of this plasma cell tumor to locate in mucous membranes.
