Influence of Growing Conditions on the Seed Quality of Selected Varieties of Spring Barley

The work deals with the influence of vintage and habitat on seed quality of seven varieties of spring barley over three years. Germination quality (power, speed, index and uniformity of germination) and the effect of size and balance of grain germination was monitored. It was found that the speed, index and homogeneity of germination were statistically significantly affected by site (P <= 0.001). A significant effect of varieties was observed on speed and germination index. Year influenced significantly high index and homogeneity of germination. Among speed, index and homogeneity of germination were recorded mutually strong positive correlation (P <= 0.001). Statistically significant negative correlation (P <= 0.001) was found between the grain size of barley and germination speed and grain size and germination index.
