Alcoholic Medium-Mediated Eu3+-Doped In2O3 Quantum Wires

Lanthanide ions have potential applications in lasing, up-conversion, and bio-imaging, as they are visible to near-infrared ultra narrow band emitters, with long luminescence lifetimes. Herein, the Eu3+-doped In2O3 quantum wires (QWs) were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal synthetic method in alcoholic medium without additional ligands. The efficient energy transfer was observed from In2O3 to Eu3+ at room temperature. The influences of various experimental variables including, reaction temperature, reaction time, Eu3+-doping concentration, and different alcoholic solvents on the optical properties of the obtained Eu3+-doped In2O3 QWs were also systematically investigated in detail. The reaction medium was found to be a key factor for successful incorporation of Eu3+ ions in the In2O3 host by balancing the reactivity of metal salt precursors.
