•An UPLC-Q-TOF/MS method was used to characterize the constituents in HZE-60.•5 constituents were quantitatively analyzed and compared in activity fractions.•Resveratrol, E-1-G and E-8-G were vital anti-inflammatory constituents in Hu-Zhang.
