摘要
In the past, phenomenon of a bridge being washed away because of a typhoon, a heavy rain in the rainy season, a localised torrential rain, a tsunami and other floo disasters have been observed several times. Hence, new technology and science to restore bridges that have been washed away or damaged are facing an increasing demand. Using the latest technical developments in light structures, the post-buckling response of a thin cylindrical shell is reviewed herein similar to the concept of Origami. This engineering idea is very useful when applied to deployable bridge systems with a rapid construction method. The folding bridge design takes inspiration from the folding skills of Origami, where the scissors mechanism is understood and applied. This study presents a new type of bridge based on the folding idea of Origami and the multi-folding microstructure. The developed bridge system for providing relief after natural disasters is then reviewed by performing a field test in a real river.
