Effects of Some Ecological Factors on Strobilation of Polyps of the Jellyfish Rhopilema Esculentum

Rhopilema esculentum is an important edible medusa in Chinese coastal fishery. This research aimed to study the environmental factors and their interaction on the strobilation of R. esculentum. The results showed the numbers of ephyrae released by polyps strobilation increased following the increase of feeding frequency and decreased following the increase of temperature and salinity in test range. There were significant effect and interaction effect of temperature, salinity and feeding frequency on strobilation of polyps (P < 0.01). The most advantageous condition for strobilation of R. esculentum were 15 degrees C (temperature), 20(salinity) and feeding every three days(feeding frequency).
