摘要
Charcoal is the most important adsorbent for gastric decontamination following the over dose of toxic substances. Furthermore, cosolvency or solvent mixing is a solubilization technique in pharmaceutical formulation. Lamotrigine (LTG), which is an antiepileptic compound with possible overdose and clinical toxicity, was selected as the model drug in the study. Herein we studied the effect of LTG concentration and cosolvent composition (ethanol and propylene glycol) on the adsorption of drug by charcoal. The findings of this study showed that the solubility of drug in solvent system and sorptive interaction between LTG and charcoal are critical parameters when it comes to the adsorption of drug by activated charcoal.
