Abstract
Cardiac hypertrophy is the complication of many cardiovascular diseases, and the mechanism of-cardiac hypertrophy-remains unclear, Although-quercetin exerts strong therapeutic role towards cardiac hypertrophy, the therapeutic mechanism is also not be fully elucidated. The present study aims to focus the alteration of aldose reductase and drug-metabolizing enzymes in cardiac hypertrophy, and the reverse effect of quercetin towards these two kinds of enzymes. Treatment of angiotensin for 5 male C57/BL6 mice was used to create cardiac hypertrophy model, and pretreatment of quercetin (i.p., 100 mg/kg/day for 15 days) significantly protected angiotensin-induced cardiac hypertrophy. Compared with the control mice, the expression of aldose reductase significantly increased, and some drug-metabolizing enzymes" significantly altered in the angiotensin-induced cardiac hypertrophy mice, including cytochrome P450 lal, 3a, and 1b1. The pre-treatment of quercetin significantly reverse the expression of these enzymes in cardiac hypertrophy model. All these data will be helpful for the understanding the mechanism of cardiac hypertrophy and therapeutic potential of quercetin towards cardiac hypertrophy.
