Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitory Activity of Artocarpus blancoi

The bark of Artocarpus blancoi (Elmer) Merr. exhibited xanthine oxidase inhbitory activity at 64.64%. Purification of the active compound using bioassay-guided isolation scheme led to the identification of 5,7,4'-trihydroxyflavanone-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranoside. Its activity was found to be comparable with the positive control allopurinol.
