Assessment of Knowledge of Community Pharmacists on Pharmacological Management of Alzheimer's Disease

In this study we aimed to assess the knowledge of community pharmacists (CPs) on the pharmacological management of Alzheimer's disease (AD). A cross-sectional study was carried out among CPs to evaluate their knowledge and pharmacological management of AD. A self-administered questionnaire was prepared to assess knowledge of CPs about AD pharmacotherapy. In total, 85.1% of respondents correctly answered that early pharmacological management of AD may postpone hospital admission. A significant association was observed between CPs who had essential training and skills in AD management, and earlier educated pharmacists (p = 0.038). This study showed that CPs with working experience can have a significant impact because they can counsel patients and relatives on AD management (p = 0.010). Study results showed that CPs had inadequate knowledge about AD. Thus, there is a need for training and education programs for CPs to improve knowledge about AD and its management in Saudi Arabia.
