Prevalence of comorbid psychiatric disorders among people with autism spectrum disorder: An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses

•This umbrella review summarized the prevalence of comorbid psychiatric disorders among people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).•The findings of this review suggest a high prevalence of anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar and mood disorders, schizophrenia spectrum, suicidal behavior disorder and other psychiatric disorders co-occurring among individuals with ASD.•Most participants were youth and majority of the studies were conducted in developed countries.•This evidence necessitates more research to assess the global burden of psychiatric comorbidity in ASD and multipronged interventions to address the same.
